A recent report published by eMarketer expects 4.55 billion people worldwide to own a mobile phone in 2014. Despite mobile adoption slowing, new users in the developing regions of Asia-Pacific and the Middle East and Africa will drive these further increases. According to the report, mobile phone penetration will increase from 61.1% to 69.4% of the global population between now and 2017. This is clearly great news for mobile marketers, particularly those looking to expand into the developing regions of Asia and Africa.
